The Road trip Cadenet to Moissac, France 2018
We left out beautiful house sit at Cadenet in the Vaucluse region, southeastern France and travelled to Moissac in the Occitane region, southern France. This was a 5-hour road trip. We shared this trip with our beautiful daughter Madelaine and our best mate and son-in-law David the sailor. We pitched up at a great park beside the Tarn River called the Camping-le-Moulin-de-Bidounet.
Camping @ Moissac France
Our Camping site in Moissac was a beautiful tree lined island location and only 20 euros a night. Click her to view campsite. Right beside the river Tarn and just across the river from the township. We could easily walk into town in 15-20 minutes. Spent a couple of weeks here enjoying the river and watching boats cross the river below them from their lofty Canal bridge, and walks along the canal de midi mostly shaded thank goodness. The township is known to canal barge travelers and the waterway travels right through the town. Canal berths for barges are available right in the centre of town. Oddly enought the town berth manager was English, lovely man and very helpful with local attractions.
Cycling @ Moissac France
Being an avid cyclist I was very impressed with the never ending bituminised towpaths. A cyclist dream, zero traffic and I could cycle for hours in both directions along the river from the town and meet few other cyclist or pedestrians 🚴♂️. Tow paths run through some small villages with plenty of little cafes to stop at for refreshments 🍷. Some time you have to pull off the river and cycle to the nearby towns 🚴♂️.

I suppose the most historical building in town would be the 11th Century Moissic Abbey. The cloisters are partly shaded by a huge cedar tree. Unfortunately my pictures weren’t that great so the one shown is from the Michelin site (which I use a lot planning the route). Below are some of my streetscapes and you can see the abbey at the top.

Here we have our traveling monster, a Swift Bessacar Motorhome on a Fiat Ducato chassis. We travelled in this exceptional vehicle for four months in early 2018. It was truly a wonderful experience 🚐. Driving this vehicle is no different than driving a van. I found driving quite comfortable and I’m not a fast driver i just drive at a speed in which the vehicle feels right. The only issue I would have is if I had to pass a truck or if one was passing me. There tends to be a vacuum where the vehicle sways from side to side a bit. Nothing too extreme but enough that you can feel it for a couple of seconds.
Motorhome Camping @ Moissac France
Motorhome Pitch at Moissac Motorhome and Honda Scooter Scooter and Bike on Rear Platform Fabian at Work on the barbie Comfy Interior
To get around after we set up camp we used our Honda scooter which we transported on the custom-fitted rear platform. The scooter was fairly easily mounted and dismounted from the platform by the two of us once we got used to it.
We used the scooter to sightsee and do our grocery shopping, managing to fit a few days supply into the ‘boot’ and backpack and under the seat. The downside was the weather. Scooters are OK in the summer when it’s warm and dry but not so nice in pouring cold rain. Also, we didn’t feel all that safe with some of the drivers we encountered. On the plus side, parking was never really a problem.
Hire a Motorhome Here
We jumped in at the deep end when we decided to buy and motorhome. Family and freinds said “hire one before you buy” you may not like this type of travel they said. Well for all thoughts that think that was great advice we have an affiliate link for you right here.

The Fishing @ Moissac France
View across the River Canal Bridge View Across the River Tarn
The river Tarn runs past our island camp site on both sides and you drive through the old mill building to get to the campsites. Avid french fishermen come here every year for their summer holidays. You can see why from these pictures. The river is lined with happy fishermen all day every day. The gentleman below was there every day and although he didn’t speak any English and we spoke almost zero french we were still able to communicate through sign language. His real joy that day was catching that fish. You will be happy to know that he threw it back into the river. Seems it wasn’t edible after all that effort.

The End
So we shall end this post with our very happy french fisherman enjoying his summer vacation in the lovely peaceful town of Moissac. We ended our stay here at the end of June 2018 and travelled north to Cherbourg where we caught the ferry across to Ireland. 🚢🇮🇪
