Camping Salata is situated in the province of Catalonia in the northeast corner of Spain and just over 150 km from Barcelona, a 2-hour drive down the motorway. We stay for nearly 2 months, why? Because there is so much to see in this beautiful part of Spain. Camping Salata à Roses – Spain

Base Camp

Choosing a campsite is important to ensure comfort and convenience. This time we settled on Camping Salata. It meets all our requirements in pitch size, power, water and grey water. It was also only 1 km from the centre of Roses along the waterfront and a short stroll to the beach. Camping Salata à Roses – Spain

Camping Salata is owned and operated by the Terraza group, a french hotel group. We found them to be very professional and the staff couldn’t be more accommodating. The facilities are in our humble opinion are spic and span. You have everything you need on site and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them. We list there URL for convenience.

Our Pitch @ Camping Salata à Roses – Spain

The pitch size is important to us slow travelers because we stay awhile and like to erect our full awning with all its glory. So by the time we drive into the time it’s time to have a beer can take some time 😂. I let my wife be the boss during awning erection so i do all the hard work and she tells me how to do it 😂. In the end, we have an extra 20 sqm of outdoor area. This is where all the cooking action is with our weber barbeque, outdoor dining, and recreation. But when the weather turns cold and windy its indoor dining of course.

Around Roses

Well, what do you want close by for your enjoyment? Beautiful sandy beach, yes we got that, great outdoor restaurants on the beach, yes we got that. Who loves long walks along the waterfront and township? Yes, we got that too. Camping Salata à Roses – Spain

Why Roses?

We take some time in deciding where to go and what to see. So we do a little research and what did we find? So much history in this place which probably started around the 5th century with the Greeks. A must-visit and in the centre of the town is the Ciutadella de Roses. An early Greek, Roman settlement. If you like historical monuments there is also another settlement at L’Escala called, Ruïnes d’Empúries, again Greek and Roman ruins. Camping Salata à Roses – Spain

Monasterio de Sant Pere de Rodes

What a day we had to explore this monastery and the surrounding fort and village. My wife is fascinated with historical monuments and of course, i get dragged along. Mind you I don’t really mind. Must be something to do with being Australian. Australia is such a young country. It doesn’t have this type of European history but it does have an amazing indigenous history and culture.

Must Visit Towns Closeby.

Cadaqués. Only 30 minutes by car from Roses over the Serra de Rodes mountains. Beautiful old fishing town and home to the artist Salvador Dali. There is some of his art scattered throughout the town. There is one pictured below. Great place for a quiet walk and some lunch. Camping Salata à Roses – Spain

El Port de la Selva is another lovely town closeby with lots of ghostly fishing stories waffling in the sea breeze. the day we visited was breezy and the harbour was busy with those new foil boards fly across the water. Another great visit.

L’Escala is to the south of Roses and the Ruïnes d’Empúries is just outside town. you can kill two birds with one stone with a visit to both same day. After you have visited the ruins you should walk up to the Sant Martí d’Empúries which is an old church and village. Nice beach and some restaurants their.

Empuriabrava is the home of the waterfront people. Its was built in the seventies with an umbrella canal design. So we have lots of boats, big boats. There is also a lovely wide beach. Don’t miss the Saturday morning markets at the beach front.

Just to let you know that Salata accepts the ACSI euro camping card.
