Only a short fifteen-minute drive further north from Benidorm we found this beautiful little town called Altea. There’s a great camping park right on the waterfront at Albir Beach.

The campsite itself is very well kept with lots of permanents from the northern EU states, mainly the Netherlands. We later discovered it was nicknamed little Holland. With so many permanents it was difficult to get a pitch, but we managed to squeeze in. The permanents, pretty much all retirees, live here during the northern winters. It was here that we met our first (and so far only), grumpy old men.

We have no idea what we did to incite their animosity having only just arrived. Maybe that’s all it took or maybe they didn’t like being disturbed by tourers. But anyway, we didn’t take it to heart and just let them be as disgruntled as they wanted to be and got on with setting up. Can’t win ’em all eh? I have to add, this was not endemic. We had some amazingly kind helpful and friendly faces to make up for the grumpy ones

We walked along the waterfront every day. Just beautiful. We also walked not very far up into the town to get to the supermarkets, It only took 15 -20 minutes unless we were delayed watching people dancing or playing an instrument.

Anyway, great exercise carrying that heavy load of groceries back down to the park. We were always amused by how many cafes and restaurants there were in these towns especially when a lot of them were not at all busy (some were closed for holidays), but we figured there are so many travellers and surely they must be busier in summer

EL Albir – Altea

The town of EL Albir with all the shops and supermarkets, restaurants, etc.. is just a short walk from base camp. In fact base, camp is right in the middle. So you have a choice each day if its a choice you want. To stroll either way. There is also the walk up to the Parc Natural de la Serra Gelada to the lighthouse. We braved it one day and thoroughly enjoy the walk there and back, yes no taxi back cos there ain’t any.

Camping Cap Blanch accepts the ACSI membership and at 20 euros a night and additional discounts for longer stays, what are you waiting for? Hope we were of some help, enjoy.
