Motorhome holidays allow you to travel in complete comfort. A lot of people now prefer this type of holiday where you can visit your favourite (or new favourite) destinations without trying to find hotels and resorts. You decide where to go and when, or you can just change your mind and go somewhere else.

Ostrog Monastery, Montenegro

A Day of Miracles

No hiking stick or boots, and yes… there is a car park at the top (not very busy today)… but in homage to the pilgrims, mostly from Croatia Montenegro Bosnia Herzegovina, and Serbia, some of whom take this path on hands and knees I thought I’d at least walk. St Basil of Ostrog’s remains are in a tiny frescoed cavern to the side of the upper church and monastery hanging off the side of the sheer mountain. A priest watches over him during the public visits. Our visit included some personally moving reflections with candles in the small monastery chapel within the rock face.

Saint Basil was born in Herzegovina in 1610 and christened Stojan. It is said at a young age he was deeply filled with the love of God and joined a monastery of the Croatian Orthodox Church. At a relatively early age, he was made a bishop and he was instrumental in the construction of the Monastery. He died in 1671, and sometime later it was decided his remains should be brought back to Ostrog. When he was disinterred, his body was intact and smelling of basil. His first miracle. There have been many of them.

Portofino, Italy

The Walk between Bau Bau beach in Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino is a Must-Do if you’re on the Italian Riviera. Portofino of course is popular with the rich and famous, cruise ships (there were two when we were there), and the not-so-rich-or-famous nomads like us. Lots of stylish yachts are anchored in the harbour and tied up at the marina. It is a delightful place to rest after the walk and have a beer while watching the various nationalities with their tour guides mop their brows and eye my beer. Plenty of lovely little FREE beaches on the way back for a swim to cool off.

Harlech, Wales

Harlech is a great spot to base yourself as it’s not far from lots of interesting places, such as Barmouth, Abersoch, Porthmadog, and Portmeirion. A must would be the famous castle, built by Edward the 1st of England in the 12th and 13th centuries. The best camping site in Harlech would be Camping Min-y-Don and opposite the Royal St David’s Golf Course. Just a short walk along the side of the golf course and through the sand dunes is the beach. Harlech, Well worth a visit. Motorhome Holiday?

Ireland, North

We took the ferry from Fishguard in Wales to Dublin. We then headed north to visit relations and loved the countryside along the County Antrim and Down coastline. Not fond of the city tours, a bit too busy for us, but we still had a wander. Towns such as Bangor, Portrush and Portstewart are worth a visit.

Attractions would be the Titanic Museum and the Giant’s Causeway.
