About Trusted House Sitters

Fabian and I have been members of Trusted House Sitters since 2015 and have travelled to Greece, Cyprus, Albania, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, France, Thailand, Australia, Ireland and England. Why did we join? Well, that’s easy, we love to travel, we love our furry friends and we get to stay in some beautiful homes for free. We live like a local and all we have to do is love our house owners animals while they travel worry-free. So would you say that we are happy? Yes, we love it and we love the people that we have met so far.

Some of Our Assignments

Burgau – Portugal

House Sitters Burgua Portugal
Fabian with Lucy and Milo

Our first Trusted House Sitters assignment was in the small fishing village of Burgau in the Algarve, South Portugal. You can read an accoount of our stay on our travel blog “House Sitting in Burgau Portugal”. we had a real mix here with an 8 yr old great dame called Lucy and the most adorable stafford terrier called Milo. We have one thing in common with or doggie freinds and thats personnallity. Both had personality plus. Lucy, playfull but reserved, but Milo, what an amazing doggy. Very loyal and protective but also very playfull. He would keep us entered every-time we watered the lawn with the sprinkler, he just loved to try bitting the water at the sprinkler head as it rotated, so funny.

Colares – Portugal

Fabian with Harry and Gus, Lucy the Labrdor in the foerground

Colares is approximitly 40kms to the west of Lisbon in Portugal. This was our second trusted house sitters assignment in Portugal. There was plenty of room on the driveway for our caravan (trailer). This home stay was great as it allowed us to look after three beautiful dogs. We had two little white havanese dogs called Gus and Harry and a Labrador called Lucy. Lucy was 15 and a little unsteady but Gus and Harry both 8 yrs old and lots of energy. Daily walks for these guys was a scream, barking and yapping as soon as walky time was mentioned and then pee, poo and sniffs all the way. Read about this house stay in our blog page House Sitting colares Lisbon.

Martenet – France

Trusted House sitters
Lulu and Lucy

Martinet is in the province of Vendee on the central west coast of France. We were here for the month of April 2019. We had alot in common with the owners as they also owned a motor home. While we looked after there three cats, a gold fish pond and their beautiful gardens, they traveled to Spain and Portugal. The cats where easy to look after but the gold fish pond required the filters cleaned a couple of times. Loved the gardens, bueatful lawns. There was a drive on mower so all good. You can read about this house stay in our blog page House Sitting in Martinet France.

Shrewsbury UK

Trusted House Sitters
Shrewsbury Clancy

On numous occions we would go to my sisters house in Shrewsbury UK. This house sit was always a pleasure. Why, yes of course to see my sister but also to look after her incredible smart cockapoo dogge called “Clancy”. Clancy has so much energy so lots of walks in the park. lots of ball throwing and lots of catching. Shrewsbury has lots of history and is on the river Severn. The local park is called the Quarry and only a short walk from my sisters house. Another geat place to take Clancy for walks was Attingham Park. A natinal trust property with lots of history. We still have to write a blog about our time in Shrewsbury so haven’t got a link to that story yet.

Bais – France

Bais, France was another great house sit for us. We met and fell in love with Saffy, A female stafford terrier. She was a delight to look after and we had many lovely walks throughout the area. Saffy’s walks included forrests, river tow paths, the lake and rowan ruins to name a few. Saffy did get a eye infection while we were in charge with emergency vet treatment. She had to wear a cone over her head for several weeks. All good though and vet give her a full recovery tick just after we left. You can read about this house sit in our blog Trusted House Sitters Bais France

Ballyclare – Ireland

Alfie
Ballyclare Alfie

Here we have Ballyclare Alfie the Shiatsu. We get great pleasure out of playing with our furry friends. Alfie was no exception and always happy to get out for a walk. He is so small we would lose sight of him in the long gress along the side of the road 😂. He didn’t mind the snow on our walks and would pull us along, faster faster eh! His little facial expressions just so serious, that stare that told you off all the time. “Now you just do what your told”. “Play ball with me” “take me for a walk” “feed me”. Such a pleasure to be with was our little Alfie. You can read about this trip to Ballyclace in our travel blog A Visit to Ballyclare Ireland.

Book Recommendation

The Man With The Butterfly Mind By Fabian Foley

What happens when the only living soul who knows you are missing is your dog?

If you’ve ever wondered what a dog is thinking and feeling, then Bimba draws you into a charming and believable first-hand experience of her world. Bimba’s happiness isn’t the only thing that’s in jeopardy when her owner disappears. And when she finds herself in the care of others, her gratitude is overshadowed. Even if she could make them understand, they are all preoccupied with their own sadness and struggles.

But, as seemingly unrelated events and unexpected kindness propel Bimba’s new friends into an orbit with her at its center, the universe gets to work. And as their lives overlap and converge, it’s clear that even when what we get isn’t what we thought we wanted, happiness is still there, waiting for us to catch on or catch up.

A story of loss and grieving and overcoming adversity. Quirky, with humour and emotion. As uplifting as it is captivating.
