Italy – Camping Village Milano
It’s always a little stressful leaving a campsite and weaving your way out of a busy city. I’m sure anyone who has towed an eight-metre caravan behind a five-metre station wagon knows what i mean. Just that you can get stuck in awkward situations, like tight cornering or having to reverse. I always use Google maps to preplan my way out of the campsite and out of town (but sometimes my navigator aka wife, get’s her left and right mixed up.) Getting out of Camping del Fiori and the township was a little tricky as a lot of the old European towns are just not well designed for traffic (probably because when they were designed there wasn’t any traffic). Lots of one-way streets with cars parked on either side, not much room for maneuvering.

Ditto for coming into Milan, again plan your route. This campsite was pretty close to the motorway so the route from the motorway to the campsite was short and the road was good. Only a five-minute drive. The entrance to the campsite had plenty of room to maneuver. There is an aquatic park next door which helped I suppose as both campsite and park shared the entrance.
Campsite Services
Camping Village Milano is the only campsite near the city of Milan. You can catch the Bus-Subway just outside the campsite to the centre of the city (Milan cathedral). The pitches average 60m2 but there is an abundance of larger ones. We were there in August and there was plenty of room, albeit just after things started to open a bit after pandemic restrictions.
There are 130 pitches on site and some 44 statics. The power available on-site is 6amps, with no grey or fresh water on the pitches. Bathrooms are great, clean and showers are large and roomy. Toilets also clean newly renovated and large with toilet paper. You can also rent private bathrooms. In the off-season, it can be wet and the pitches can be very muddy. This site is open all year. Some pictures of our pitch setup. We haven’t got the awning up as staying only a couple of days. the only downside for my wife was the mosquitos, she was forever applying repellants and got some irritating bites. They don’t seem to like me for some reason, at least not while she’s around. They did have wifi, but for some reason, we weren’t able to pick it up.
We found the staff very helpful, well isn’t that what they get paid for? The gasman was extremely helpful as we only had bottles we bought in Spain. He went out of his way to find an adaptor to fit the local gas bottle. This was after he found out we were Aussies and not English. With the UK now out of the EU there is a little bit of resentment towards the UK population traveling in Europe, especially English. I think they need to get over it… particularly since most of the English touring in Europe probably really like being in Europe. Why else would they be there?
Static Cottage Type Accommodation
There is a variety of alternative accommodation on site. A mixture of different types of what I would have called cottage type, they call Static. Some look like they need a little TLC and others look quite acceptable. I didn’t get to look inside but if you are thinking of booking one then I’d recommend you ask to see it first.
Caravan Motorhome Storage
Something we use a lot while house and pet sitting is storage for our caravan. Camping Village Milano does have storage facilities. Unfortunately, they only rent them out on a per annum basis. Prices range from 680-880 for the year. So if you wanted to leave your caravan of motorhome close to Milan and travel Italy and the Islands this would be a very secure and great place to store.
Petting Zoo
To finish up on this campsite we must let you know about the petting zoo or farm animals. They have a modest setup of farm animals or pets at the front of the site. Everything from chickens, geese, small horses (shetland ponies maybe), sheep, and a variety of birds.
Oh… and there is a cattle or pig farm close by. If the wind is blowing the wrong way, you will know about it. It bothered us, but our neighbors thought the farm smells were wonderful and it made them feel like they were really in the outdoors. Takes all sorts I suppose 🙂
