Camping Kalami

I just can’t say enough about Camping Kalami. From the minute we arrived and had that quick look around with the lovely lady manager, we fell in love with the place. Even though it is only a ten-fifteen-minute drive out of Igoumenitsa, it feels like you have just landed on an isolated island paradise.

And after a 26-hour ferry ride from Venice to Igoumenitsa and the normal hassles off disembarking and clearing formalities, it was such a welcome relief.

The trip from the ferry terminal to Camping Kalami is a short 15-minute drive. The entrance to this campsite is a 190-degree turn of the main road and the road in is a single line. Not a problem really, any oncoming traffic just gives way and you wait your turn.

There is the main parking area when you reach the reception. This site is terraced with pitches stepped up the hillside. Loads of room to maneuver. We arrived in late August 2021 so was quiet and only about half full. We accepted a large pitch close to the beach.

Kalami Beach

Think we may have worn the beach out with our daily morning and afternoon swims. The water during our weekly stay always seemed so crystal clear and warm, always alluring. The breach was covered with small white pebble stones and sandy, not too hard on the feet.

Lots of fish looking up at you. Some days large and small yachts would sail in gracefully and anchor for the night. Very tranquil and serene.

Facilities

As you can see from the pictures our pitch was plenty large and overlooked the beach. Power 6amps but we were lucky to have public freshwater tap adjacent, but no greywater. The wifi was great and free. There is a great restaurant on-site and the food is local Greek and good.

We used the restaurant the first night as we were too tired to visit a supermarket in town. However there is a small shop on-site, so you could rustle up something if you wanted to. Toilet and shower facilities are clean but antiquated but that didn’t hold us back. . The cost per night for us was 30 Euros, car, caravan, power and two adults, high season prices. The staff were great and very helpful, and you can get takeaway from the restaurant, chips are great.

You can do a little exploring next door if you walk to the end of the beach and up the side of the campsite. You will find a little grotto up there that must be visited regularly by the locals. Great views, and great for a picnic.

Igoumenitsa

Igoumenitsa is the ferry port we disembarked from. There are a number of large supermarkets in town but do not stock the foods we like 😎, but we found the local Butchers and local veggie shops great. You can also get a ferry town over to the island of Corfu, In fact, Igoumenitsa is a central base for ferries throughout the Greek Islands. Plenty of restaurants with great views over the harbor.
